And then today someone was telling me of a CS friend of theirs who plays Ultima Online or one of those other MMORGWARGH games for a living. Apparently the guy just sells accounts or virtual equipment stuff or something on ebay, and he makes a living off of it.
All of these things lead me to think I must be headed in the wrong direction in my career.

We went to war on the auspices that Iraq had broken international law and had weapons of mass destruction. And by WMD, we didn't mean empty missiles that could have carried chemical weapons. We are talking about the chemicals. We don't mean radioactive sheds that the World Institute of Atomic Energy already knew about and allowed for Iraq under closed UN seals (which our marines broke into illegally). We are talking about weapons grade plutonium. We aren't talking about medical facilities studying virii for medical purposes, facilities equivalent to our own Center for Disease Control in Atlanta. We are talking about truckloads of anthrax. Where are these things?
And don't tell me that we are questioning sources and not surprised that we haven't found anything yet. Don't tell me that Iraqi's are hiding these weapons or that they have transported them into syria. We went in to this war by stating that we had intelligence firmly showing that Iraq had these weapons. Why is it that we could find them then when we had a few dozen spies, and now that we have a marine on every streetcorner, we cant keep track of them. We have the best satellite surveillance in the world, and we couldnt track truck shipments moving these weapons. I'm sorry for being 'UnAmerican' by expressing my first amendment rights, but BULL SHIT.
And now there is talk of moving into syria to get these weapons. And korea. Will the weapons move again? I mean they started in afghanistan didn't they? Is france a terrorist state? The eiffel tower really is a cover up for the weapons labs underneath. Ok, enough of that.
There is the second argument that we were liberating people from Iraqi oppression. Iraq was not a state of slaves. It was somewhat modern. And what was oppressing Iraqi people was not their leaders. It was our refusal to lift sanctions. A country that has only oil to support itself can't eat without trading. Oil isn't very nutritious. And what about that news footage of saddam's statue being pulled over? It was an american truck pulling it over, not Iraqis. The statue was right outside the hotel where most of the American Press was stationed. If that isn't false propoganda, I don't know what is.
And the looting of course proves that we needed to attack Iraq:
"Are you saying that it was US troops who initiated the plundering?'
"Absolutely. The lack of jubilant scenes meant that the American troops needed pictures of Iraqis who in different ways demonstrated hatred for Saddam's regime."
"The people pulled down a large statue of Saddam?"
"Did they? It was an American tank that did that, right beside the hotel where all the journalists stay. Until lunchtime on April 9, I did not see one destroyed Saddam portrait. If people had wanted to pull down statues they could have taken down some of the small ones without any help from American tanks. If it had been a political upheaval, the people would have pulled down statues first and then plundered."
So the people in general weren't really upset about Saddam's regime, and there were no WMD. So tell us...why did we invade Iraq? This may be the first war in history begun completely on an illusion. Completely unwarranted. We needed something to distract the american public from the fact that our President couldnt dismantle the Al Queda, enormously messed up Afghanistan in the process while failing to nation-build, and was busy passing increasing legislature to erode the privacy of American people.
Nobody argues that Saddam's regime was inherently corrupt. They did attack Kuwait, did run a military state that wasn't the best thing for the people of Iraq. They did go against UN sanctions, illegally selling oil with other nations. I'm sure they have even been a partial source of funds for terrorist activities. What I am saying right now is that the corruption we fought this war to end was not worth the price we paid. We embarrased ourselves on the world scale. We effectively signed the death warrant for the UN. We weakened ties with a good nation(France). We had a huge financial investment in a time where our economy is not terribly strong. We lost American lives and destroyed even more Iraqi lives. We destroyed a countries infrastructure, seriously harming many innocent civilians who are now without power or water. We showed that the first amendment no longer applies to the news by firing well known reporters who tried reporting what we didn't want them to say. We created a feeling of hatred among americans for those who were of Arabian descent and Muslim religion. We SLMOST had created internment camps for these people. We harmed the environment massively. And we accomplished nearly none of our goals.
Its not a war over oil. Bull Shit.
