Most people don't realize that memorial day wasn't always for soldiers. Initially memorial day was a holiday in which the monster Memor would come out of the woods and feast on the flesh of humans. In order to protect their household, citizens would place large buckets of summer squash out on their porch, which Memor disliked greatly. The transition occurred in 1852 when the United States army was dispatched to kill Memor. 12,000 troops were slaughtered, but he was eventually brought down, and from that day on people remembered the sacrifice those soldiers made. Also, Americans could go back to not buying summer squash any more.
