Andrew suggests when I get my bike back from the shop that I sit out in the bushes with Jared's pistol. I think I will just haul my bike up three flights of stairs into my apartment from here on out.

About 2 weekends ago, I came out planning to ride my bike for the first time since the weekend had begun, and lo and behold the front tire was missing. I had to walk to class that morning. I was kinda pissed, but it was somewhat my fault for not locking up the bike's front tire which was quick release (pull a lever and the tire pops off - no tools required). I figured I'd replace it and not get worked up over someone stealing it.
Now, for the past 2 weeks, I have been working my ass off meeting a deadline for a research conference. I haven't been biking and I didn't get around to replacing the tire. Wasn't a priority.
Tonight, I go outside and walk past the bike. Now, the back tire is gone (requires tools, as well as my seat(quick release) and my seat pouch (velcro). Now, as for the seat and seat pouch - they are pretty easy to take, and while I'm greatly pissed I probably *should* have been keeping these things inside my apartment with me. But the back tire requires tools, and a good deal of work and greasiness to detach. Someone had to plan this out at least a little. Nobody locks their back tire. Nobody else's tire is stolen. Just mine. I'm miffed.
And, get this, I have had my bike for 2 years now - never locked even the front tire, have left lights on the handlebars, have had it locked in the same location, and it was never so much as touched. My other roommate even had hers out there for the majority of the summer without even locking it at all. It eventually was stolen, but not for about 2 months.
So, now I have to ask myself if I buy parts and get my bike back. It will probably cost me about $100 in total. Unfortunately, there is no reason why someone won't just come along and rob me again. I've even thought about putting my car near enough to the bike that I can put a videocamera and computer in the car and see if it does get stolen again.
This whole thing just pisses me off.
